Our Curriculum for Under 5’s
Pre-school
We take children from the age of 3. At this age, they enter our Pre-School which is run as part of our Foundation Unit.
These are our youngest children and they follow a curriculum which covers 6 areas of learning:
- Personal, social and Emotional Development.
- Communication, Language and Literacy.
- Mathematical Development.
- Creative Development.
- Physical Development .
- Knowledge and Understanding of the World.
These areas cover a range of topics across the year and the children have a huge range of different experiences. We teach these areas to the children everyday and they are often unaware which they are learning as they are often mixed together.
Once they are old enough, they move into our Reception class...
Reception Class
The children in Reception Class are currently spending the early first part of the term looking at Ourselves. In full, The topics we will discuss with the children this term are:
- Ourselves.
- Festivals.
- Toys.
- Buildings
- Mini-Beasts.
- Transport.
"Children make good progress in the Foundation Stage, particularly in personal, social, and emotional development and speaking and listening. These skills are promoted well by members of staff, who are well led."
Our Under 5's classroom is a model of good practice and this was recognised in our last OFSTED inspection in March 2007.
